Hail! Any curse from you before we start this interview?
M.A. Hail to all the people in Malaysia!

I've never heard of Cursed Scrolls before so could you give a brief history of your
band?
M.A. Cursed Scrolls originally formed in 2010 with some  raw guitar tracks that recorded as a possible project. The idea was fom  a band and 2011 I found to a  female vocalist to make a duo band. I kept going composing and writing till now.

The name Cursed Scrolls sounds epic to me but I know it's a different story on your side so what is the meaning of Cursed Scrolls? Does it have anything to do with cards?
M.A. I wanted a name that describes the feeling that the music and lyrics inspire, but not the conventional names with“evil” or “demonic” or stuff like that. So this name came to me suddenly. And with the time I discovered that it’s a title of a song by Krisiun.

I've read somewhere that there's one year of silence and inactivity of Cursed Scrolls so could you explain what happened to the band actually?
M.A. As I said, in 2011 found a female vocalist and we had plans for the band, but disafortunally and suddenly it couldn’t be. So Iooked for members but here is very very hard find a drummer. So in last 2011 I decided be the one and only in the band. And is not a mistake by now.

Magus Aion is the only official line up of Cursed Scrolls, so are you running this band alone for some specific reason or it' s been like that since the early days?
M.A. This band is a project that I want to release since 2010. And is for my girlfriend the `cause that this band runs. She inspired to me to make this happen through the release of my other project of depressive black metal called Forgotten Litanies, that band was a gift for her, and till now I can run this one alone too.

The reason of this band is very simple: Spread hate and darkness over the world.

For a one man band I know it's hard and you need a lot of confidence and courage to go with the flow and in the same time deliver something that you adore with passion. What makes you so determine to continue the journey of Cursed Scrolls? What are the difficulties that you face along the way?
M.A. Well as I said again my girlfriend, and my family too, and of course the friends. They rate my music and their opinion is the most important to me. Then the people in facebook included the ‘zines etc. People is the best fuel to make my music and keep on this.

Obviously, the worst thing is play live. I can’t go out alone with a PC and play my songs, it’s ridiculous, and I know and respect the bands that do that. But for black metal… I prefer play at home hehehe. I hope someday it happens.

Raw Demonic Occult Black Metal is what Cursed Scrolls is all about. Could you define more on the band's vision and concept (musically and lyrically)?
M.A In the beginning the lyrics talked about occultism, but, with the time, about the dark forces and powers of old too.

“Raw” is ‘causing the music sounds like that, like the
principle of black metal, the principle of all the darkness inside of me. What
is inside of me is that I play.

When comes to Black Metal the usual way is to be very pure and sincere for everything you do such as what or how you represent through your band and how to stay strong among others in the scene. So what measures you take to make sure Cursed Scrolls is always as mentioned above?
M.A. Keep real with black metal, with the people and overall with yourself. No matter that you read, what you hear, what they say.

Always will be a person that don’t like your music, and
for that one, there will be 5 or 10 people that like it. So there’s no reason to
be disappointed with your music if there’s a bad rate or comment. We are not
kids for get pissed off with that.

You mentioned that Cursed Scrolls are influenced by Beherit, Ondskapt, Ravencult, Satanic Warmaster and D.N.S. In what terms these bands influenced Cursed Scrolls besides music? And what is your personal influence individually?
M.A. Beherit and D.N.S. in the lyrics and darkness in
them and the music.Satanic warmaster in the sound and some melodies and
ravencult, maybe in the attitude to play the music. My personal influence is
Immortal and early Darkthrone. Pure inspiration.
There are tons and tons of Black Metal bands here and there worldwide. It's a global thing and it's expanding each and every day. What is the main difference between Cursed Scrolls and other bands?
M.A. The wheel is invented, the black metal too. The difference between C.S. and another black metal band could be that, I play an old school black metal, mixed with some sounds of the modern black metal and a
production between old school and modern black metal.

The voices are dark and loaded with reverb, the guitars sounds raw and filthy. But some riffs, and the production are not old school at all.

I think that is a good difference, and that’s beacause there’s very bands of old and today that influence me day by day.

In Cursed Scrolls how's the process of compositioning goes? Do you compose the music first or you make the lyrics before the music? What about the instruments, you play all of them or you seek help of others?
M.A. Always the music first. Then the lyric. I play every instrument, less drums, are promagated. But I program them too. And I produce everything too. Is not a hard job, is my job.

Could you list down all Cursed Scrolls past and present releases?
M.A. At the moment there’s no releases, I’m preparing a split with two another bands from Argentina and I hope that they are prepared in May, and I’m waiting to complete a contract with Opaqus Recs. From U.S.A. for a limited edition of the demo in cassette. But I asure you that this year will be split and demo tape.

I love Initiation Of The Cult, the intro that i heard off Cursed Scrolls Reverbnation page.It has a lot of folk elements in it regarding the flute and the pounding drums. Are you trying to incorporate folk elements in Cursed Scrolls music in near future or it's has already been the band's platform since the early
days?

M.A. That was a song for include to the listener in the world of magic. When I think about an ancient ritual I imagine it like that, and people dancing and rounding and chilling and stuff like that.

The song is that: An initiation in an obscure cult, the other two songs that will be included in the demo, we can say that is the continuation of that initiation with two different rituals. But folk elements will be not included in songs.

I wonder if Cursed Scrolls have ever played in any shows/gigs? Is it possible to experience the band live on stage despite being a one man band would make it impossible due to line up problems etc?
M.A. At the moment I’m not looking for members, maybe
one day. I wanna play in a show. But as I said, is very hard find a drummer
implicated with the band. So I hope it happens someday.

What's new in the Spanish Metal scene nowadays? I've heard of Asgaroth,Golgotha and Avulsed before and maybe you can recommend any good, promising bands from your place or country for the readers to check out?
M.A. Well there’s a band called Moñigo, are grinders and
friends of mine. Very nice. Also Aversio Humanitatis or Andhord. Foscor, wormed…There are too many hehehe.

The internet is now a medium
of communication that works well for bands from around the world to keep in
touch, spread their music and share their passion. What about Cursed
Scrolls?

M.A. I’m only on FB and is going very good by now. In a
month a have a lot of friends and people that like the stuff, I talk with ’zines
and labels… It’s going very good.

How's your relationship with other bands around the world? Do you trade stuffs with others like metal bands always do last time? Do you know any bands from
Asia?

M.A. I always treat to be nice and respectfull with other bands, I talk with few at the moment, but always is nice.

I make trades with labels with my other project of
depressive black metal, and I will do it the same when the stuff of C.S. will be
released as well.

I remember that I left an announce about the band in the wall of the band Pest, from Sweden, and it seemed that don’t like it to the band. But it’s ok, with the rest of the people is nice and always that I can response to someone I do it. I’m a black metal warrior, but I’m not stupid.

What are the plans for Cursed Scrolls in near future that you've arranged for now?Would you sign to a label if there's a good offer somewhere outside there for the band or you still prefer Cursed Scrolls to be independent all the
way?

M.A. As I said, there’s the split project, will be released via Satanica recs. And the offer of Opaqus for the limited edition on tape.

Anyway I’m looking for label so if anyone is interested…
hehehe. And always play black metal and record the best that I can give.

We have come to the end of this interview so any last words from Cursed Scrolls to be cursed out?
M.A. Thanx for the interview, for include the band in the compilation, and the people in Malaysia and any place on Earth that read this for their time reading it. I hope that like the band and add me on FB and click “like”.  Overall, be cursed all of you forever!!!
