INTERVIEW WITH THE BLACK MORIAH
The Black Moriah was founded by Zawicizuz (Absu, Bleed the Son, Infernal Oak, Rape Pillage and Burn) Mad Arab (Bleed the Son) and with the later addition of Alkehest (Melora, Runes of the Evening) to forge Rusty Metal for a desert funeral.
In the Spring of 2011, The Black Moriah entered the studio to record their first effort "Casket Prospects". Upon completion of the album, these outlaws on the outskirts spread their gallows medicine from New Orleans to El Paso.

Cheers from Texas!!! Thanks for having The Black Moriah on your zine.
2 - To those who aren't familiar with The Black Moriah could you please tell how did the band get started from the early days?
Tbm started after I (Zawicizuz) left Absu, and started planing a new project with The Mad Arab (exBleedtheSon).
3 - I heard that this monicker The Black Moriah have a significant history so what is this all about and does it have anything to do from where the band members are from?
The Black Moriah is a wagon hearse that took almost all of the residents of Boot Hill Cemetery to there final resting spot. It was used in the late 19th century in Tombstone Arizona.
We are the pallbearers driving this stage to hell!
4 - Who are the members of The Black Moriah and would you mind ellaborate on their positions?
TBM consists of
5 - You guys played black thrash generally but somehow they are some twist here and there in the composition. What is the best description of what The Black Moriah carry in its music and is there any non metal elements in your music?
TBM play blacken thrash for a desert funeral. We prefer diving, fast, in your face music. We do draw on a vast array of music. Classical and old folk songs of our lands past. As well as the epic soundtracks of Ennio Morricone.
6 - Who made the logo for The Black Moriah and how do you feel about it?
The Lord of Logos Christophe Szpajdel. We are very satisfied with his art. He took our theme and direction quickly and provided extremely pro results!!!
7 - How does the process of writing and composing songs in The Black Moriah goes? Who gets to write the music and lyrics? Mainly what your lyrics are all about?
I've written all the music thus far for TBM. The Mad Arab and I discuss the lyrical themes and stories and craft tales of our expansive territory.
About its wild past, it's exploits and overall lawlessness.
8 - Tell us more about your first full length release "Casket Prospects".How has the fan response been towards the band are you satisfied with your accomplishment so far?
Casket Prospects is the result of the first years of TBMs genesis. The fan response has been excellent and our plague is spreading daily.
9 - Could you tell us about The Black Moriah's influence for the band and personally? Does any of you guys need something to trigger ideas and inspiration for the band?
TBM draws on our lands past and the tales that have survived the ages. We are currently embarking on a tour of deep West Texas and shall spend a few days camping in the desert. We're are sure to be inspired by this trip!
10 - We all know that Zawicizuz is no longer with Absu and have been focusing on this band. What is the reason if you don't mind to share and with all the Absu legacy left within him do you (the rest of the band) think that this will effect The Black Moriah's output especially the black thrash metal genre apart of being in the Absu's shadow?
I grew up within The Southern Abyssic Communion. (Absu, Divine Eve, Infernal Oak) I've been close friends with Absu since the beginning. When Proscriptor approached me about performing on the "Absu" album and touring in support of it I was thrilled to contribute. Once the touring cycle was complete I moved on to begin TBM. We have recently played a show in Dallas Texas with Absu. Learning the 20 plus year lexicon that is the Absu set surely has had a positive impact on my writing style.

11 - The strong desert background really makes The Black Morah different from other desert oriented (usually bands with Middle East/Arab traditional and contemporary elements) bands. What makes the desert a creative and inspiring playground for you guys while creating a strong trademark that may helped the band to deliver more and in every aspect?
The desert is a harsh land with drastic contrasts of life and death. It is a landscape of the lone wolf. We are slowly implementing both the American desert elements with that of the Middle East. |
