Usul was formed in June2012, is a one man band all the way from the Phillippines have just released a demo called "Flames And Blasphemy" that took my attention entirely and I couldn't believe my ears that this is an Asian band and that makes me excited to review this and proud as well.
This demo contains 5 songs(plus one intro) and to me when I heard Usul for the first time I was shocked and delighted at the same time listening to it.The compositions are brilliantly done with the idea of combining black metal and acoustic elements.Straight away it reminds me of Uaral which is my all time favorite band! To other listeners they may thought this a complete mock of it but to me I have this feeling of the creative process will expand in near future. The sound is a little bit unbalanced between the guitars(electric and acoustic) but this can be fixed for sure.
The production is quite normal but that's okay as it's only a demo and Unlight Warbringer might want to upgrade in his next release that's for sure but overall it's a decent demo with decent quality in it.
The acoustic guitars really shine on this release and it's an advantage to Usul for being creative in the song writting process which gives us a new flavour to be added to the Asian black metal scene. My favorite track will be the instrumental track "Dance Of Impurity" and I love the acoustic guitar's section in the middle of the song and it's outstanding! With the decent sound and style,Unlight Warbringer managed to come out of the typical Asian black metal style and this is good news,at least for me who always seek for new bands with new visions and willing to go further without looking back.I really hope Usul can produce more and spread the beautiful and enchanting art in the form of black metal.Recommended for the fans of Uaral (of course) and also black metal fans who can digest orientel elements in black metal itself.
